Shefrin received her B.F.A. from Alfred University and her M.F.A. from the University of New Mexico. She was Professor of Print Media and Co-director/Founder of The Institute for Electronic Arts at Alfred University, before becoming the Dean of Graduate Studies at RISD. She has developed electronic imaging studios and curriculum predicated on exploring the range of interfaces created through the use of contemporary electronic tools. These tools reflect the multidimensional nature of our time and present artists with opportunities to traverse boundaries, create new vocabularies and extend cultural dialogues. Jessie has been a visiting artist at a number of institutions including: The Banff Centre, Baniff, Canada; The Experimental Television Center, Owego, NY; Cranbrook Academy of Art, Bloomfield Hills, MI and The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago, IL. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally. Most recently her work has been included in: The Bay Area Video Coalition, San Francisco, CA and The European Media Art Festival, Osnabruck, Germany. Her work is in the archives of The Experimental Television Center and in the artists book collections of: The Whitney Museum, New York, NY; The Museum of Modern Art, New York, NY; The Guggenheim Museum, New York, NY; The Brooklyn Museum, New York, NY and the National Museum of Women, Washington DC.
